DUVATEEN – NEW SINGLE OUT NOW!

The Afghan Whigs announce the release of single “Duvateen” via Royal Cream/BMG. The title of the song is a nod to the actual light manipulating material, which here serves as a symbol for mortality, the dark abyss always framing the background of our lives. Listen HERE.

“When I finished “Duvateen,” it felt like my life passing before my eyes,” Dulli says. “The references to the teacher chasing me down the hall reminded me of my childhood. Digging a hole was an obvious allusion to a grave. I’m at a precipice in life where I can look behind and clearly see the forest of my youth, but I can also see the path to the other side. And it’s going to inform what I do for the rest of my days.”

The release comes hot on the heels of “House of I,” which received high praise from fans and the likes of Rolling Stone, SPIN, Pitchfork, and more. Both singles pave the way for The Afghan Whigs to release an album later this year, with more announcements about that to follow shortly.

THE AFGHAN WHIGS RELEASE NEW SINGLE: THE HOUSE OF I

40TH ANNIVERSARY NORTH AMERICAN TOUR BEGINS NEXT MONTH

The Afghan Whigs announce the release of “House of I,” their first new music since 2022 via Royal Cream/BMG. Driven by pounding drums, roaring guitars, and caustic lyrics steeped in desire, the track is delivered with Greg Dulli’s unmistakable vocals. Produced and mixed by Dulli and Christopher Thorn, “House of I” was recorded at Marigny Sound in New Orleans, LA, with additional recording and mixing completed at Fireside Sound in Joshua Tree, CA. Listen HERE.

“Laid this one down in New Orleans last summer,” Dulli remarked.  “Was looking for an up tempo banger and feel like we found one here.”

The Afghan Whigs are back with the kind of high-octane rock energy you’ll want to experience live and up close in a darkly lit room. The band will hit the road next month in honor of their 40th Anniversary for a twenty-one date North American headline tour with Mercury Rev joining as special guests.

The tour kicks off in Woodstock, NY at the Bearsville Theater on April 25th and concludes at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA on May 24th. Visit https://linktr.ee/theafghanwhigs for more information.

Band co-founder Greg Dulli had this to say about the band’s anniversary, “40 years later, I still get to do the thing I love the most. Writing songs and performing them with my friends all over the world.  I truly have to pinch myself.”

THE AFGHAN WHIGS ANNOUNCE 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR

From their inception in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1986, The Afghan Whigs have never played by the rules of convention. Against the plaid-and-grunge-shaded backdrop of the early-to-mid-‘90s, the Whigs stood apart from their contemporaries by virtue of attiring in suits and being way more likely to slide up on a Marvin Gaye groove than rehash a Black Sabbath riff.

Originally splitting in 2001, the band subsequently reunited for a massively successful 2012 reunion tour that found them headlining major festivals all over the globe and selling out prestigious venues throughout the U.S., Europe, and Southern Hemisphere.  Since then, they have not only added to their touring legacy they have released three critically acclaimed albums in the 21st century: Do to the Beast (2014),In Spades (2017) and How Do You Burn? (2022).

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the band, who will celebrate the occasion with a twenty-date headline tour in North America.  Mercury Rev will support on all dates.

The Afghan Whigs are planning to release a new record in 2026.  More announcements about that to follow shortly.

THE AFGHAN WHIGS RELEASE TWO NEW TRACKS – FAKE LIKE + DOWNTOWN.

Afghan Whigs single cover artwork.

Now available on your favorite streaming services and as a limited edition 7″

The Afghan Whigs return with two new tracks, both covers, yet tailor-made for classic Whigs treatment. “Fake Like,” originally recorded by Minneapolis-based indie band Poliça and “Downtown,” originally by UK-based band Still Corners, both showcase Dulli’s vocal strength and dramatic leanings and find the band in fine form: anthemic, and pushing the boundaries of their own sound.

Says Greg Dulli of the tracks, “Both of these songs were born out of soundcheck jams. Each song holds a particular resonance for me and I really felt the lyrics, so they both flowed freely and felt good to sing.”

Both songs will be available for streaming worldwide beginning today on all major DSP services.  A limited edition 45 single has been created as well and will be sold by Cincinnati’s own Shake It Records.

This is the first new music from The Afghan Whigs since the release of their 2022 album How Do You Burn?, which received immense critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Los Angeles Times, SPIN, Stereogum, Billboard and more.

Next year, 2026, marks the 40th anniversary of The Afghan Whigs. Many plans are in the works for the band already and will be announced in the new year.
